What is art school? In the current economic climate, how do we afford to learn new skills? Can we reinvigorate arts education through self-organisation?
School of the Damned present Common Room, a week-long programme of free educational workshops, talks and participatory events taking place at Guest Projects, Haggerston from Saturday 22nd to Saturday 29th July 2017.
Common Room is a space to congregate and collaborate, experiment and elaborate, relax and rehabilitate.
Pooling the interests, knowledge and skills of its cohort and their wider network, SOTD is knocking down the classroom walls to pitch a diverse and inclusive learning agenda. As artists-in-residence, SOTD propose a localised, accessible alternative to traditional mainstream education; creating a decentralized environment in which peer-to-peer learning is facilitated
Performing drama recitals, fermentation, mp3 mixtapes, life drawing, karaoke, book club, making musical instruments, clothes, charcoal, dinners; all events are free at point of use.
Running alongside the main public programme, co-op enterprises Dream School clay-play, Fantasia plant swap and the Surplus Food Canteen will unfold over the week with guest chefs.
