Private view for 'Seeking News from Nowhere' exhibition of works by British artist Benjamin Deakin. The show explores the notion that the search for a utopian environment for living is possibly a dystopian one in itself. Deakin uses deconstruction and reconstruction of environments to alter our depth perception with a space on this quest.
It is an exhibition lightly based on the fictional classic novel 'News from Nowhere' by the nineteenth century architect, poet and writer William Morris. Deakin's painting of hybrid spaces seem to suggest that what is perceived as reality is only a projection of our imagination, alluding to the fact that the quest for utopia is one that may probably never be realised.
