BioArt: Making art with the unseen

BioArt is an emerging field of art practice that uses biological media, such as bacteria and DNA, to explore the impact of biotechnology and science on society and culture.

This cutting-edge weekend BioArt workshop at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace accompanies the landmark exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing. Taking inspiration from Leonardo’s exploration of human anatomy and the natural world, leading British BioArtist Anna Dumitriu will teach participants how to extract DNA, explore synthetic biology, grow environmental bacteria safely, and even make their own bioplastic.

Anna Dumitriu, an internationally renowned artist, was the 2018 President of the Science and the Arts Section of the British Science Association and has exhibited her artworks at significant venues including The Picasso Museum in Barcelona, Ars Electronica Festival in Linz and the Guangzhou Triennial in China.

The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience and all materials will be provided. It includes a private view of the exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing.
