‘CALLIGRAPHIC RHYTHMS’ by Mouneer Al Shaarani at Stories Art Gallery
30th May – 27th June 2019
Following its fabulous success in Paris and Berlin, the Stories Art Gallery is delighted to announce the hosting of ‘Calligraphic Rhythms’, the critically acclaimed exhibition showcasing the works of master calligrapher, Mouneer Al Shaarani.
Al Shaarani is a world-class master calligrapher, designer and writer living and working in Damascus, Syria. Al Shaarani started Arabic calligraphy at the tender age of ten, under the tutelage of the great Syrian calligrapher Badawi Al Dirany. After graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus in 1977, his work has been exhibited internationally in the Middle East, Europe and the USA. He is highly regarded for his unique and original style that modernises ancient fonts whilst never losing sight of its historic roots. His innovative approach in fusing words of wisdom, aphorisms and proverbs from the Quran and Hadith with our contemporary modern lifestyle, creates both a visual and intellectual joy for lovers of calligraphy.
“Along His creative journey, Al Shaarani achieved a unique combination of contemporary, precise, strict, enjoyable and austere pieces of Arabic calligraphy which, belongs to him in as much as it belongs to the history and charm of the previous calligraphic creations.” Youssef Abdelki, Artist.
