WHAT TO EXPECT
The workshop explores knitting as a method of making both 2D and 3D artworks. The session focuses on combining yarns with found objects, and using unconventional materials (wire, garden twine, fabric, etc ) to create mood, character and narrative.
Everyone discusses what knitting/ textiles and art experience they have.
Basic knitting technique/ circular knitting (joined needles/ 3+4 needles).
Narrative through materials ( choice of yarns, combining more than one yarn and materials, perhaps recycling any old of sentimental objects). Incorporating fabric strips, wire & garden twine & basic construction.
Rosina will discuss techniques including: felting knitted items, painting knitting with e.g latex and threading objects onto the yarn e.g buttons.
This section is designed to elaborate on how knitted objects can be translated into sculptural forms and to advance your own ideas on the results that can be achieved by creative knitting.
