Creekside Projects is proud to present the first Creekside Invites exhibition: “Just for a moment” by Rachel Mortlock with works in collaboration with Sebastian Sochan. Rachel is an artist based in London, working mainly in sculpture, installation and printmaking. Her use of materials explores domestic spaces focusing on architectural details, drawing from memories and reminiscing of specific places. Sebastian has invited Rachel due to their shared dedication to craft and making, as well as intuitive immediacy for materials.

Both artists share an interest in exploring how people interact in spaces and how objects circulate between the world of aesthetics and function. The title of the show is a nod to the embodied experience of navigating around sculpture and objects through the details you notice. These small acts take you by your hand and guide you through the room, with your sensibility choosing whether to linger and stay or continue exploring. An abundance of objects is a generous act from the maker, in a hope of something staying with you and wanting to share their world with you.

For this exhibition, Rachel created a series of casts to be propped up on wooden structures that she designed herself. Together with Sebastian’s textiles and sculptures, the exhibition will comprise of collaborative sculptural arrangements to create an environment where a sense of detachment and suspension occurs through material and sensory exploration, ceasing barriers and borders between artworks and people.
