Event Details

Don’t miss December’s First Thursday, when Melanie King – currently artist in residence at Bow Arts’ RAW Labs site – will be taking over the Nunnery Gallery for one night only, installing her moving images works of the moon and talking to Gallery Director Sophie Hill about her nocturnal processes.

Melanie's practice explores the intrinsic connection between humans, materials and phenomena existing beyond the earths' atmosphere. She primarily uses sun, moon and starlight to cause effects on photosensitive materials, and has developed new moving image works of the moon and sky as part of her RAW Labs residency and the Visions exhibition.

Melanie’s films will be accompanied by an installation of lunar photographs created by participants during Melanie's moon-gazing workshops at RAW Labs – a chance to see how easy it can be to explore the moon’s surface. The evening will end with a preview of Melanie's work in progress, and an In Conversation exploring what draws Melanie to our night skies and how she approaches the challenge of capturing its wonder.

Visions in the Nunnery is the Nunnery Gallery’s renowned showcase of international moving image and performance. RAW is one of Bow Arts’ studio sites based in Royal Albert Wharf at Gallions Reach, where a participatory and community-focussed resident programme is run from its project space RAW Labs.

In Conversation will begin at 7.30pm.
