Do you have a day job that supports your artistic practice? Could this employment inform or provide a platform for your creative work? Join artist Sam Curtis in thinking through how expanded forms of art practice can bridge boundaries of labour in a way that benefits us both economically and artistically. Sam will discuss some of his past work creating ‘stealth residencies’ within his day jobs, and together we will look at ways to re-imagine our work lives. Please bring your work CV with you as a point of reference.

Groundwerk is a monthly series of free practical workshops for artists and creatives wishing to gain the skills to support their practice.

This workshop is free to attend and open to all but booking is recommended, as spaces are limited.

Sam Curtis is an artist based in London. For over 10 years he has used his day jobs as platforms or starting points from which to develop practice and projects. Recent projects and exhibitions include ‘Changing Play residency’ with Serpentine Galleries, a research trip to Japan to study fish rubbing, Daiwa Foundation, ‘Standard Ledger and Transom’ at Artsadmin and ‘Monument to a fishmonger’ at Division of Labour. Sam works as a curator at Bethlem Gallery situated within the Bethlem Royal Hospital, the gallery supports artists with lived experience of mental illness. His work is represented by Division of Labour.
