Killed Objects: Michael Marshall and Lauren Gault in conversation
19 MAR 20 7pm, free entry.
Archaeologist Michael Marshall and Lauren Gault discuss the cult of Mithraism, focusing on examples of deliberately damaged objects found at the London Mithraeum which have shaped the works made for C I T H R A.
Michael Marshall is an archaeologist specialising in later prehistoric and Roman material culture and in the urban archaeology of London. He studied at the University of Glasgow and UCL and is now Senior Finds Specialist at Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) where he is responsible for identifying and interpreting artefacts discovered on excavations that take place ahead of modern development. His key research interests relate to urbanism, technology, biographical approaches to objects and to the material culture of dress.
This event accompanies Lauren Gault's exhibition C I T H R A, which features new sculptures made from materials as diverse as polished horn, blown glass, pumped air, light, and water, and explore the transitions between different states of matter and non-human time scales, while also addressing the ethical and political implications of our everyday interactions with the environment.
Gasworks events are free to attend, no booking required. Please note that seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
