Get ready to level up at the Science Museum

This Easter the Science Museum welcomes back its phenomenally popular interactive gaming event Power UP. Returning for a third year this hands-on video game extravaganza features the very best video games, computers and consoles from the past four decades.

Held in partnership with leading gaming specialists European Gaming League (EGL), Power UP takes you on an interactive journey through the history of gaming with 180 systems and hundreds of games for enthusiasts and novices to get their gaming fix, whether playing classic arcade games or trying out the latest VR. From Pong and Pacman to Minecraft and Mario, there is something to suit everyone, whether you’re a parent looking for child-friendly Easter holiday activities or a games aficionado who wants to revel in the classics.

Household names PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch will sit alongside retro iconic consoles such as the SNES, SEGA Dreamcast and the original educational computer, the BBC Micro.  Visitors to Power UP will witness for themselves how far gaming technology has advanced in the four decades since early games such as Pong carved out their place in pop culture, while modern innovators like PlayStation VR will provide a glimpse into what the future may hold.

Evening adult-only sessions will run on 4, 5 and 12 April giving friends and competitive colleagues the perfect opportunity to battle it out on 18+ favourites including DOOM, Resident Evil and Grand Theft Auto.

Michelle Lockhart, Science Museum Group Commercial Director said “We’re delighted that we’re able to bring back Power UP to the Science Museum following a hugely successful run for the last two years. The allure of video games really is universal and that’s reflected in our offering to visitors. There is something to excite and inspire everyone at Power UP – from gaming enthusiasts and retro fans who want to relive the classics, to parents looking to share the games that defined their childhood with their own kids.”

Tickets are available to book online or at any ticket desk in the museum. Visitors can avoid ticket desk queues by booking online before their visit. Subject to availability it may be possible to buy tickets at the museum on the day.

Power UP is recommended for ages 5+, and all gamers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
