Event Details

Be the first to see Sharif Persaud's new exhibition Have You Ever Had at our relaxed exhibition opening.

This relaxed event is for visitors who benefit from a quiet and less crowded environment. It is particularly suited to people with complex support needs or those with autism, and their families and carers. Families with children with SEND are also warmly invited to join us. A quiet space will be available for any visitors who would like to take a break.

Persaud's work explores identity through his experience of contemporary life and autism. Have You Ever Had is the culmination of the UK-wide EXPLORERS Project, highlighting the extraordinary contribution neurodiverse people make to art and culture.

In Gallery 2, adults and children can experiment with creating a film using fantastical digital backdrops at the launch of Ways of Being, our month of events and exhibitions focused on issues around disability and visibility. Our building is accessible and step free. Everyone is welcome at Autograph, you can expect a friendly and inclusive experience during your visit.

AT THE EVENT

This is an informal event to celebrate the launch of our new exhibitions and see the art on display. You can come and leave anytime during the event.

Entrance and reception area

Everyone is greeted by Autograph staff at the main entrance. The entrance is a large glass door that easily accommodates a wheelchair, and is level with the street. In the reception area, there is a front desk with a member of staff who is happy to help visitors with any questions. Free soft drinks and water will be available at the front desk.

Gallery 1

In our ground floor gallery is Sharif Persaud's new exhibition Have You Ever Had. The gallery is spacious and well lit, with a large window facing the street. Sounds in the gallery can echo a bit. Persaud's paintings and drawings will be hung on the walls. His award-winning short film The Mask will be projected onto the wall, and the film has sound. There will be benches in this gallery, and a staff member who can help with any questions. The Studio The Studio is on the ground floor. This will be used as a quiet space for any visitors who would like to take a break. There is a large glass window facing a quiet street.

Gallery 2

To get to Gallery 2, take the lift in reception to the second floor, or you can use the stairs. The lift has a mirror and reflections. At the door to the gallery, everyone will be greeted by Autograph staff, and invited to join in the activities if they wish. The gallery will have low lighting and low noise, with a projection and a TV screen in the space.

Children and adults can make a film, creating props and experimenting with an interactive green screen. All activities will be supported by Autograph's Learning and Participation staff.
