In a ground breaking new series of works using household gloss paint Neil Weerdmeester’s paintings extend the legacy of abstraction, confronting the viewer with the physicality of paint they are drawn ever closer to examine the intricate gloss surfaces that record an action in a time and place. They conjure up a combination of a Super 8 Polaroid past and a new digital society. In an age of global spectacle and instant gratification they offer a refreshing critique of the transitory and illusory nature of information, imagination without resolution, image without text, hope without fear.
