Sea Shanty Singing (and drawing)

Sat - 14/10/17

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Mall Galleries, The Mall, London, SW1

Event Details

The Morris Folk Choir will sing a collection of Sea Shanties and Folk Songs inspired by the sea in the surroundings of the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition.

Since 2008 The Morris Folk Choir have been coming together to learn sea-shanties, murder ballads, protest songs, work songs, love melodies, folkified non-folk songs, and good old knees-up tunes, from across the centuries and all over the world.

The Royal Society of Marine Artists know that the call of the sea is strong and many of us feel an urge to spend some time within sight or sound of the water. Fond memories are often centred around family trips to the beach, walking the coastline or sailing the seas. Surrounded by the painting, sculpture and prints from their Annual Exhibition is the perfect place to listen to music taking inspiration from the same sources, and even join in and sing along!

To add to the excitement, you are also welcome to draw along. Free drawing materials will be provided by our friends at Winsor & Newton.
