The Final Night in Paradise

After resurfacing holy grail film Maestro, Boiler Room TV collaborates with DJ Harvey to present an ode to dance music messiah Larry Levan and the church of Paradise Garage with 'The Final Night in Paradise’, an audio-visual piece that will be installed into an old Victorian brothel in East London.  

Lost video tapes from the mythic Paradise Garage closing party 1987 are presented as a multi-screen television installation with an exclusive, era-evoking soundtrack by living legend DJ Harvey, taken from his personal record collection. 

No cameras were allowed at the Garage yet the installation features never-before-seen original footage of the legendary NYC night club, a rare visual document of clubbing's zenith. The A/V piece, directed by Amar Ediriwira, mirrors CCTV split-screen monitoring to reveal a Boiler Room-esque voyeuristic window into a night at Paradise Garage. Included is everything from Keith Haring getting down to Gwen Guthrie, to a young and fiery ESG, to tears on the dancefloor as the lights come up on Larry Levan's last record.

In many respects Boiler Room lives in the shadow of these mercurial DJs, so we wanted to go the extra mile to commemorate it. 

We recently gave holy grail documentary Maestro its premiere online release, but kept back something secret. Later this month, we can finally let it loose: lost, never-before-seen video tapes from the Paradise Garage closing parties in 1987. 

We've put a cherry on top, too: the living legend DJ Harvey has cut and re-mastered some of his choice records from the time to create the soundtrack for a new audio-video installation: ‘The Last Night in Paradise’ which will run from 24-24th November in a Victorian brothel in East London. 

‘The Last Night in Paradise’ will wrap up with its own closing event across all of Sunday 26th at Village Underground. We will screen Maestro, playback the Harvey-soundtracked installation, then conclude with a broadcast Boiler Room party, with audiophile sound and additional production brought in especially, featuring three of the era's finest disciples: 

Nick The Record, devoted Arthur Russell cataloguer and chief of free-spirited parties for the past 25 years; Colleen "Cosmo" Murphy, David Mancuso's close friend and heir apparent, who continues to run official The Loft parties worldwide; and Jamie 3:26, a killer Chicago lifer with all the soul and electricity of Levan and Hardy. We're genuinely thrilled to do our bit to keep the fire burning.”
